Help

Each section below will list common problems and their solution.

I am told that my username or email address already exists.

If you are told that your email address or username is already in the system, it is likely that you opened an account at some time in the past (e.g., to make a purchase or join a mailing list).  Solution: Avail of the “Forgotten Password” link on the Login Page.  On entering your email address there you will be sent an email to help you login again and it will remind you of your username too.

I am told my password is not valid.

Do not have any spaces in your password.

I am a new visitor and have problems with account details.

Entering a username that has accents, spaces, hyphens or other symbolsSolution: We recommend you create a username with the first initial of your first name followed by your surname.  For example, Grace O’Malley could use “gomalley”. Use lowercase, no spaces, accents or other symbols.

Forgetting to click the Data Protection box: Solution: Tick it. Even before the European Union made this a legal requirement, we have been very protective of data that members and clients share with us for specific purposes.

If you are told that your username is already in the system, it may be (1) that you opened an account at some time in the past (e.g., to make a purchase or join a mailing list) or (2) someone with a similar name has already joined.  Solution 1: Avail of the “Forgotten Password” link on the Login Page.  On entering your email address there you will be sent an email to help you login again.

Solution 2: If you are told that your username is already in use but the forgotten password option does not recognise your email address (e.g., “gomalley” might already be used by George O’Malley or even another Grace O’Malley): Solution: Try a variant (e.g., “graceomalley”, “gomalley1”, “omalleygrace”).

If you get a message about “ReCaptcha” it usually means the page has been open for longer than our security system likes.  Solution: Click the refresh icon on your browser (usually a circular arrow in the top tool-bar) and then submit the form again.

I already have an account but have problems logging in (or have forgotten my username and/or password).

I have forgotten my username or my password or both. Solution: Click the “Forgotten Password” link on the Login Page.  On entering your email address there you will be sent an email to help you login again.

I have used the forgotten password link and the system does not recognise my email address. Solution: (1) Your old account from years ago might no longer exist. We created a totally new web-site a few years ago and advised members that they would need to create new accounts by joining WGII as a member. You will need to create a new account at the JOIN page. (2) You may have an existing account on our Moodle site. This is totally different from our main website membership and you may need to log on there for Moodle or create a new account here at the JOIN page. (3) You may have changed your email address but not updated your account with that change. Contact the webmaster.

If you get a message about “ReCaptcha” it usually means the page has been open for longer than our security system likes.  Solution: Click the refresh icon on your browser (usually a circular arrow in the top tool-bar) and then enter your login details again.
